Doug Lofstrom & the New Quartet

In case you don't know us already, the New Quartet is a 5 piece chamber group playing a wide variety of music. While our format is similar to a jazz quintet, we draw on our common musical heritage to play classical, jazz and world music. You can learn more about me and the members of the group on the bio page, or download a pdf brochure from the catalog page or below.

Our newly released CD, "NQ+(x)," features several tracks with the quintet and symphony orchestra. Other tracks feature extended versions of the quintet.

We are hoping to perform this music with orchestras around the world. Watch this site for announcements of future gigs of both the New Quartet and other groups featuring Doug Lofstrom.

146,000 hits since December, 2006

Oboe Concertino Premiere

On March 23, the New Philharmonic Orchestra, resident at College of DuPage, premiered the Concertino for Oboe and Orchestra, which they commissioned for the 30th anniversary of the orchestra.  Jennet Ingle was the soloist with conductor Kirk Muspratt. Look for excerpts on the music page.

This piece was performed again by Jennet and Kirk with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra on September 20, 2007.

Alakshaya with Natya Dance Theatre

During the month of February 2007, I composed music for Alakshaya for the Indian dance troupe Natya Dance Theatre.  This prerecorded score featured New Quartet members and Natya's musicians who were visiting from India.   The piece premiered at Columbia Dance Center and went on to performances at McCannich Arts Center and Elgin Community College. See info about Natya on the links page.
